How to send pictures and files to be used on the
website using Internet Explorer 6
(See here for some generic tips on selecting and moving
files)
- Open a new instance of Internet Explorer
- Copy and paste the line below into the
Address Bar and hit Enter or Go
ftp://upload@creekviewforensics.org
(You can use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste)
- A dialog box will ask you for a login name
and password...
User name: upload@creekviewforensics.org
Password: upload
You can check the "Save Password" box to avoid having to type it in next
time. Now click the Log On button at the bottom
If the dialog box doesn't automatically appear, choose File-->Login As...
and then fill in the information. Click the Log On button.
- You should now see a file named "_Upload_your_files_here_folks"
Congratulations! You're connected!!
- In the top menu, choose View-->Explorer
Bar-->Folders. This should display the files and folders on your
computer. There will be a newly created Web Folder called ftp.creekviewforensics.com at the
very bottom of the pane. That's us!
- Drag and drop the files from their
location on your computer onto ftp.creekviewforensics.com. This transfers
them to the website. You can drag and drop multiple files at one time (see
below for helpful hints).
- Email dancrider@verizon.net
and let me know you uploaded something for the site (or if you had a problem
and couldn't). Thanks in advance for adding to the experience!!
Some generic tips for selecting and
moving files...
(These work everywhere, not just here)
- Use Ctrl+C to copy. Try to do
it with your left pinkie on the Ctrl key and your index finger on the C.
- Use Ctrl+V to paste. Again, try
to do it one handed, pinkie on the Ctrl key, index finger on the V.
- Use Ctrl+X to Cut. Again, learn
it one-handed. The cramps go away after a few days.
- Ctrl+A to select everything. (Ctrl+Click
can unselect individual items)
- To quickly switch between open programs, use
Alt+Tab. Put your left thumb on the Alt key (by the spacebar)
and use your middle finger on the Tab key. With your thumb down on the
Alt key, keep hitting the Tab key. This will let you quickly cycle
between open applications. Much faster than clicking the taskbar.
You have two hands...use them both!
Learning these simple keyboard shortcuts can seriously increase your speed.
To select a group of files in My Computer or Explorer...
- If they are all together, highlight the
first one, then Shift+Click on the last one. This will
highlight all in-between. You can now drag and drop them as one.
- If they are not together, click the first
one, then Ctrl+Click each one you want to add to the group. To
drag them, just click and drag one, the rest will follow.
- If you want to select all but a few files,
select the ones you DON'T want, then use Edit-->Invert Selection.
Dragging and Dropping...
- Use the right mouse button instead of
the left one when dragging and dropping . When you go to drop, a handy
little menu pops up asking whether you want to Copy, Move, or Cancel.
This will save your tail more than once.
- Instead of dragging and dropping, it is
sometimes easier to right click the file and choose Copy or Cut, then select
the destination folder, right click, and choose Paste. This is handy if you
tend to accidentally drop things in the wrong place a lot. :-)
- When you are about to drop a file, you can
use the Ctrl key to change a Copy to a Move, and vice versa.
